LCLAA Denounces Yesterday’s Acts of Violence on Eight Victims, Six of Whom were Women of Asian Descent

WASHINGTON, DC—LCLAA denounces yesterday’s unspeakable act of violence perpetrated on six Asian women who were murdered while working at three spas in Georgia. Though the details of the violence are still being gathered, the facts remain that we have witnessed an uptick of racist violence in our communities’ very core.
We can not ignore that the acts of hate against our Asian sisters and brothers rose by nearly 150% in 2020, much of it fueled by Trumps’ scapegoating of Asians and his incendiary comments about the “Asian virus” when referring to the Covid-19 pandemic.
This must be seen for what it is, pure and simple; acts of hate couched in racist, sexist, and xenophobic rhetoric that have no place in our society. It is equally important to highlight that white nationalists have terrorized our communities for far too long, and LCLAA stands with all our partners to say No to any violence against any community.
“It is critically important to stand with our brethren at times like this,” said Jose Vargas, LCLAA’s executive director; ‘we must stand united in ensuring that all communities of color are protected and respected.”
LCLAA stands in support of the AAPI community and will continue to fight against violence and discrimination in our country. We also echo and support the voice of our sister organization APALA.
