Whereas, the labor conditions of agricultural workers are not adequate for safe employment, have insufficient
supervision and inspection by OSHA, and now, with the passage of new legislation, the contracting bodies are
no longer held responsible for labor conditions, while the rural bosses are exonerated from responsibility for
labor conditions in their fields;
Whereas, the death by dehydration of the young girl María Isabel Vásquez Jiménez in Stockton, California, has
unveiled the real state of labor conditions in the agricultural fields of California, where in recent years more
than 700 workers have died;
Therefore Be It Resolved, that we reject the "free trade" agreements throughout the Americas and call for their
renegotiation and ultimately for their repeal if (1) labor and environmental standards are not elevated to levels
considered adequate by the labor movements in the signatory countries, (2) national development programs are
not established in the signatory countries that promote massive investments that generate manufacturing
employment, (3) necessary comprehensive agricultural reforms are not implemented in the signatory countries
with the aim of rooting the campesinos in the land so that they can remain in their countries of origin, without
having to migrate, and (4) they continue to undermine the democratic institutions and protections of each
country.
Therefore Be It Resolved, that we call for the repeal of the Security and Prosperity Partnership between the
United States, Mexico and Canada;
Therefore Be It Further Resolved, that we reject the privatization of state enterprises that provide public
social services (education, health, public transportation);
Therefore Be It Further Resolved, that we oppose any form of privatization-destruction of the public system
of social security, pensions and retirement. The existing funds belong to the workers, and should not be handed
over to the control of speculative financial capital;
Therefore Be It Further Resolved, that we reject the privatization of natural resources (oil and gas in
particular). The revenue from the State enterprises should be put toward investment in national development
plans and programs -- in infrastructure and in industrial and agricultural production;
Therefore Be It Further Resolved, that we say "No" to the privatization of the Mexican oil company PEMEX
and that we support the movement of national resistance that is spreading across Mexico in support of the
demand for a National Referendum, so that the Mexican people can decide for themselves how best to protect
their sovereignty and resources!
Therefore Be It Further Resolved, that we call for Legalization and Papers for All workers, documented or
undocumented. Immigrant workers should have full rights like any other component of the U.S. working class.
We commit to promoting by all means possible a national campaign that will win legalization for immigrant
workers from the incoming administration;
Therefore Be It Further Resolved, that we call for tearing down the Wall of Shame along the U.S.-Mexican
border and putting an end to the militarization of the border; and
Therefore Be It Further Resolved, that we call for putting an immediate halt to the raids and detentions of
undocumented immigrants;
Therefore Be It Further Resolved, that we reject the Guest Worker Programs as contrary to the interests of
both immigrant and native-born workers; and
