17. Resolution from Sacramento Chapter
No War on Iran
Stop the Bush Administration from fabricating another
Iraq war on Iran
Whereas, there is a new and immediate danger of a U.S. attack on Iran, either directly by the United States of America
Pentagon or through the State of Israel. The threat of such an attack was made clear when Israeli Prime Minister Ehud
Olmert, addressing a convention of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) in Washington DC, said that
Iran's nuclear program must be stopped by "all possible means;"
Whereas, this threat escalated after Ehud Olmert returned to Israel from his U.S. meetings. Within hours of his return,
Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz called war against Iran "unavoidable." Prime Minister Olmert then fanned the flames,
echoing President George W. Bush in saying, "All options, including the military option, must remain on the table;"
Whereas, George W. Bush's swing through European capitals took the same message of threats against Iran and the May
28th issue of Asia Times On-Line reported that the Bush administration had plans to launch an air strike against Iran
within the next two months;
Whereas, former German foreign minister Joschka Fischer warned in the Israeli daily Haaretz of June 1 that President
George W. Bush and  Ehud Olmert seem to be planning to end Iran's nuclear program "by military, rather than by
diplomatic means;" and
Whereas, the European Union has threatened to impose an embargo on Iran to pressure the government of Iran to
"destroy its nuclear arsenal of mass destruction" -- another fabrication similar to the one issued by George W. Bush in
relation to Saddam Hussein's alleged "weapons of mass destruction."
Therefore, be it resolved, that LCLAA National opposes the use of military force and embargos against Iran, which only
target the working class and poor people of Iran, and calls upon the U.S. government, the State of Israel, the European
Union, and their allies to cease their threats of an embargo, blockade or any military intervention against Iran, and instead
to seek all manners of peaceful and diplomatic means to resolve this situation;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that LCLAA National send a letter calling on the President of the United States, and
the President Elect, to seek all manners of peaceful and diplomatic means that includes continuing to work with the
Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that currently monitors Iranian facilities.
