LCLaa’s national response to the state of the union

Washington DC.- As we reflect on President Biden's State of the Union address, LCLAA recognizes the strides made toward fostering an inclusive and resilient America. The President's commitment to building an economy from the middle out and defending democracy resonates with our mission to empower Latino workers and communities.

President Biden rightly draws attention to the historic progress and contrasts between competing visions for our nation. We acknowledge his dedication to investing in all of America, ensuring the middle class has a fair shot and that no one is left behind. The emphasis on defending democracy, restoring the rights of Roe v. Wade, and passing voting rights into law aligns with our values of justice and equality.

While we appreciate the commitment to building a future where the middle class comes first, LCLAA urges vigilance in addressing immigration issues. Immigration should not be wielded as a mere political pawn but approached with genuine compassion and commitment to the principles of justice. We caution against exploiting immigration for short-term political gains, emphasizing the long-term societal benefits of comprehensive immigration reform.

LCLAA urges the administration to confront the dire threats that currently jeopardize our democracy during this pivotal moment in history. The integrity of our democratic principles is imperiled when the rights of women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and migrants are marginalized, dismissed, or eroded by political forces. In this critical juncture, we must uphold the core tenets of equality and justice for all, as compromising these fundamental rights and liberties is simply unacceptable.

President Biden's strong stance against attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act and cuts to Social Security and Medicare is commendable. We stand united in advocating for policies that uplift working families and protect vital social programs.

The administration's bipartisan record, demonstrated by signing over 400 bills, is impressive, and we encourage further collaboration on crucial issues. As advocates for Latino workers, we urge continued efforts to address challenges our community faces, including fair labor practices, just wages, and safe working conditions.

It's evident that Democracy faces significant threats, and it's imperative for each of us to safeguard it from slipping away. The President aptly reminds us that America's narrative is one of continual progress, boundless opportunities, and unwavering resilience. LCLAA fully aligns with this vision and will continue to work to achieve a Democracy for all. We have the power to forge a future that authentically celebrates the rich diversity and limitless potential within the American populace."
