Washington D.C.-  Friday’s declaration by the Trump administration of a national emergency at our nation’s southern border, evokes a dangerous nationalistic move aimed at justifying the manipulation of our country’s constitution in pursuit of a racist, xenophobic and nationalistic agenda.  The only emergency we are witnessing is Trump’s blatant disregard of the law in order to manufacture a crisis as a pretext for delivering his campaign promise of a border wall. This nefarious border wall would not only stand as a monument to hate and racism, but furthermore, it would divert necessary taxpayer dollars from services that Americans use, need, and rely on. LCLAA will continue to stand against these policies that only serve to hurt and divide Latino, immigrant and ultimately all working families.

“Trump has proved to have a vivid imagination, creating and manufacturing a crisis where it does not truly exist,” said Yanira Merino, LCLAA National President. “Declaring a national emergency on our nation’s southern border is not only laughable, but is worrisome and dangerous because it proves that Trump will stop at nothing in order to move forward his white supremacist agenda.”

“During the past two years we have seen mass deportations, the termination of programs like TPS and DACA, we have seen mothers whose kids have been snatched from their arms. Now we are witnessing Trump’s ridiculous attempt to manufacture a crisis where it does not exist,” said Hector Sanchez Barba, LCLAA Executive Director. Our nation deserves better than a immoral wall built on the pretext of a delusional and manufactured crisis. We demand Congress acts now and puts an end to to this fraudulent crisis.”
