LGBTQ+ RIGHTS
For too long, LGBTQ+ individuals have faced discrimination, inequality, and violence for who they are, threatening their safety and their ability to succeed and thrive in all aspects of life. LCLAA is a staunch supporter of the LGBTQ+ community and works to guarantee that Latinx LGBTQ+ individuals have equal opportunities in and out of the workplace.
our priorities
Equal Rights for LGBTQ+ Individuals: All individuals, regardless of their sexuality or gender orientation, deserve to be treated fairly and equally. Yet, in over half the country LGBTQ+ Americans are excluded from freedoms, liberties, and protections afforded to their straight counterparts.
This is why LCLAA calls for the following:
Legislation to enforce federal protections for same-sex marriage
Equal access for LGBTQ+ individuals, including minors, to education, extracurriculars, housing, medical care, and other services
Increased protections for LGBTQ+ individuals detained by immigration
Inclusive parenting laws that keep families together, regardless of the members’ sexual orientation or gender identity
Protections against the erasure and censorship of LGBTQ+ history, stories, and current events
Equal Treatment in the Workplace: No worker should feel that sharing their identity will be a detriment to their professional well-being and success. LGBTQ+ individuals often face discrimination in the workplace, are more likely to be unemployed, and earn less than their straight counterparts. Latinx LGBTQ+ workers face these disparities at even worse levels.
This is why LCLAA calls for the following:
Passage of legislation such the Equality Act to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity
Strengthened workplace protections to prevent discrimination
Employer initiatives to promote diverse voices in leadership
