Solidarity with workers across the country

Dear LCLAA members and allies,

The benefits of joining a union and being part of the labor movement, in general, have never been more important than at this present moment. The wave of countless workers trying to organize for a better future and a living wage has been sweeping this nation, and those fights are only the beginning.

Fundamentally, we as a collective must do our part to sustain this movement by supporting those confronting unfair work environments. Being involved may look different from community to community. Still, it is incumbent upon each of us to figure out how we support these local organizing fights and breathe life into the adage that an injury to one is an injury to all.

LCLAA has been supporting and disseminating information about many of these struggles. We encourage all of you to participate and support the vast array of organizing efforts that are on the way. Such as; the union seeking to organize Amazon’s Bessemer fulfillment center, production workers at Rick & Morty and Solar Opposites who filed a petition for a union election, to the Workers at Starbucks who will be holding a union vote in the coming weeks. Remember, we all have the responsibility to hold the line for our hermanas y hermanos en la lucha!

In solidarity,

President Yanira Merino

Want Equal Pay? Get a Union.

In this recent blog post, co-authored by AFL-CIO president Liz Schuler and Women’s Bureau Director Wendy Chun-Hoon about Union Women Equal Pay Day, which comes a full month earlier than Equal Pay Day. Being represented by a union reduces women’s wage gap by nearly 40% compared with the pay gap experienced by non-union women.  Read the full blog.
