The Pen and the Spotlight: The Value of the Joint SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild Strike

Dear LCLAA Members and Allies,

Our work and our movement is centered around advocating for equal opportunities and fair compensation. As we know, the struggles faced by Latino/a writers and actors have persisted for far too long.

Many of the writers and actors we admire, those who bring our stories to life, are often faced with an unjust reality. They are offered fewer opportunities and are undervalued when it comes to compensation. It is a systemic issue that needs our collective attention.

Our brothers and sisters at SAG-AFTRA have joined the Writers Guild strike, echoing their calls for better working conditions, increased representation, and equitable pay. As one of the largest labor actions in recent years, this strike is a crucial step towards dismantling the barriers that prevent Latino/a writers and actors from reaching their full potential.

In the coming days, we encourage you to actively support our fellow union members on the picket lines, spread the word on social media, and engage in conversations that shed light on the inequalities present in Hollywood’s industry. Together, we can amplify our voices and effect meaningful change.

Remember, our fight is not only for ourselves but for the generations of talented Latino/a writers and actors who deserve a fair chance at success. Let’s stand shoulder to shoulder as we push for a future where every artist, regardless of their background, is treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.

In solidarity,

Yanira Merino

National President of LCLAA
