about us
Our chapter was founded on March 19, 1981. Though it went dormant for 17 years,two LCLAA members reactivated in 1998. I don’t recall when National has set the year as a working chapter. We struggled in the beginning, because Lansing didn’t know LCLAA. So when I was elected president in 2008, and took over in 2009, I told the members that this isn’t my chapter. This is our chapter. What do you want to do? So this is how we began to have Lansing area know us.
Voter Registration and voter education at area high school and university
Attend Labor Rallies and participated at MI AFL-CIO events
Attend meetings with Action of Greater Lansing, Civil and Human Rights
for Immigrants.
Volunteer at UM Labor Studies. We present workshops
Volunteered in packing lunches for school children
Collect personal beauty/hygiene products and donate to shelters
Adopt less fortunate families during Thanksgiving and Christmas-we filled a
