LCLAA Commemorates the 68th Anniversary of Rosa Parks' Courageous Act and Calls for Support a bill that honors her legacy

Washington, D.C.  — The Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA) proudly joins the nation in reflecting on the profound impact of Rosa Parks' courageous stand on December 1, 1955, marking the 68th anniversary of her arrest in Montgomery, Alabama. Mrs. Parks' steadfast refusal to give up her seat to a white passenger ignited the flames of the Civil Rights Movement, culminating in the historic Montgomery Bus Boycott.

This significant day serves as a poignant reminder of one woman's resilience, determination, and unwavering spirit, whose actions reverberated across the nation, transcending racial and social boundaries. Rosa Parks' act of defiance became a catalyst for change, sparking a movement that would eventually dismantle segregation laws and advance civil rights for all Americans.

LCLAA recognizes the importance of this day for brown and black communities across the United States. It is an opportunity for us to pause, reflect, and honor the sacrifices made by trailblazers like Rosa Parks. Her legacy is a powerful reminder that the fight for justice and equality requires collective action, resilience, and an unyielding commitment to dismantling systemic injustices.

As we celebrate the 68th anniversary of Rosa Parks' historic stand, LCLAA calls upon all individuals, organizations, and communities to support H.R. 308, the Rosa Parks Day Act. Introduced by U.S. Representative Terri Sewell and members of the Congressional Black Caucus, this legislation aims to establish a federal holiday honoring Rosa Parks, recognizing her pivotal role in shaping the course of American history.

It is disheartening that, to this day, there is no federal holiday specifically dedicated to honoring a woman or a Black woman. LCLAA firmly believes that recognizing Rosa Parks with a national holiday is not only a tribute to her remarkable contributions but also a symbol of our commitment to acknowledging the often-overlooked contributions of Black women throughout history.

The Rosa Parks Day Act is an essential step toward rectifying this oversight. LCLAA urges citizens to contact their representatives, voice their support for this legislation, and actively participate in the democratic process to ensure its passage.

As we celebrate the legacy of Rosa Parks, let us rededicate ourselves to the ongoing struggle for justice, equality, and the empowerment of all marginalized communities.
