lclaa expresses concern on the passing of 1105 bill in georgia

Washington DC.- The Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA) vehemently condemned the passing of Bill 1105 by Georgia House Republicans. This bill grants police officers and sheriffs the authority to identify, arrest, and detain individuals suspected of violating immigration laws for deportation.

The 1105 bill is excessively harsh and fundamentally anti-immigrant. Granting such sweeping powers to law enforcement not only risks exacerbating racial profiling but also undermines the basic human rights of immigrants. This bill could also affect residents and US citizens due to their origin; marginalized members of Latino communities could be persecuted for a presumption.

The approach of targeting individuals based on suspicion without due process is a direct affront to the principles of justice and fairness. Instead of enacting draconian measures, what our country urgently needs is a comprehensive immigration reform that addresses the complexities of the issue while upholding the dignity and rights of all individuals.

LCLAA firmly believes that immigration policies should be rooted in compassion, empathy, and respect for human rights. Any legislation that fosters fear, discrimination, and division within our communities is a step backward for our nation. It is imperative that we advocate for reforms that promote inclusivity, fairness, and opportunity for all.
