WASHINGTON – As we mark the one-year anniversary of hurricanes Eta and Iota, which devastated over 11 million residents of Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua, LCLAA is calling on the Biden Administration to extend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to migrants from these countries. If deported back to their devastated communities, many hurricane victims would have no house or job to return to as a result of widespread flooding and economic collapse. They would also face food and water insecurity and widespread violence.
As Latino, Latina, and allied trade unionists, LCLAA wholeheartedly supports the extension of the current TPS for migrants from these countries beyond the current expiration date of December 2022. TPSiano workers and their families make indispensable contributions to their local economies and communities, and they deserve to live and work without fear of deportation and harassment based on their undocumented status.
You can help advocate for this much-needed policy by sharing content from digital toolkit and by contacting your local representatives in Congress.
