Our trabajadoras fellowship
WHat we do
LCLAA designed its Trabajadoras Fellowship to empower Latina workers by providing them with the information they need to improve their working conditions and to organize fellow Latina workers to advance their priorities. This six-month program prepares fellows to promote gender equality within their communities, engage in coalition building, participate and coordinate civic engagement efforts, as well as to raise awareness regarding Latina worker priorities, including closing the gender, ethnic and racial wage gap.
WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE
Training Schedule: Sessions will be held on Saturdays and Thursdays each month (please refer to the schedule provided by the program coordinator)
Requirements:
Dedicate 3 hours/ month to the program
Participate in monthly training and working sessions
Complete a long term advocacy project
Host a gender equity event
Comply with LCLAA policies
Be an active LCLAA member!
OUR curriculum
The Wage Gap: Through this webinar we will discuss how we can work towards engaging communities, coordinating with unions, women’s rights advocates, Latino civil rights groups to raise awareness, promote solutions, and create change to address the Latina pay gap.
Women—Know Your Rights in the Workplace: The webinar will teach fellows about the policies that protect employees from sexual harassment, sexual violence, and other forms of discrimination in the workplace, and the organizing strategies that are emerging to tackle this problem.
The Union Difference: This webinar will give an overview of what a union is and what it means to bargain for the common good. We will discuss how and why a grassroots, intersectional movement can help fight inequality and lead to a fair and just balance of power.
Financial Literacy and Understanding Retirement: During this webinar fellows will have the opportunity to learn from experts how to uncover effective financial programs and resources aimed at making informed financial decisions that can benefit their families and community in the long-term.
Planning Events for Advocacy: In this webinar fellows will learn about the value of organizing an event for advocacy, as an opportunity to educate workers on key issues and empower them to make well informed decisions that can promote racial and economic justice.
Leadership Development: More workplaces are starting to realize the benefit of a diverse workforce, but this has yet to be reflected in leadership, especially with women of color. Through this webinar, fellows will learn the key skills they will need to become leaders in their teams and organizations.
