¡Feliz año nuevo! - Happy New Year!
|
Dear LCLAA members and allies,
Happy new year! I hope that you were able to get some much needed rest and spend cherished time with your loved ones over the past weeks. Although we continue to face a continuing pandemic and confront challenges to our basic democratic rights, like the rights to vote and to organize, the holiday season has filled us with optimism for the year ahead.
And we think that optimism is warranted! With approval for unions at a historic high and with many workers reconsidering what they value on the job, we have an unprecedented opportunity to bring new workers into our movement. That's why we recently launched the 50 for 50 Anniversary Membership Drive, through which we are challenging chapters and members alike to recruit 50 new members by March 31st.
Fifty years ago, Latino and Latina trade unionists from around the country had an idea - an idea that planted the seed for our enduring and pioneering organization. Since then, LCLAA has touched the lives of countless workers by giving them a voice in their workplaces and communities. We hope you will join us in this year of recovery and celebration to build on that legacy by reaching out to workers and families who are looking to regain a voice and sense of purpose.
In solidarity,
President Yanira Merino and the LCLAA National Staff

On the one-year anniversary of the January 6th insurrection at the Capitol, LCLAA joins AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler in calling for reforms to defend against assaults against our democracy and strengthen voting rights for all Americans. Read President Shuler's statement on this somber anniversary, and take action by telling Congress to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act, which would prevent our communities by being disenfranchised by state and local legislatures.
