Lclaa Acknowledges Congressional Action to Prevent Government Shutdown

The Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA) commemorates the bipartisan action taken yesterday to prevent a government shutdown. However, as it is our elected official’s duty to prioritize the needs of the people they serve, it is their responsibility to prevent a government shutdown from occurring in the future, or from being this close to occurring.

A government shutdown is not a mere political standoff; it is a crisis that has far-reaching and devastating consequences for millions of people, particularly those who are already marginalized and facing economic hardship. A government shutdown puts critical lifelines at risk, from essential public services to financial support programs.

LCLAA firmly believes that the well-being and dignity of every person should be non-negotiable. We remain firmly committed to advocating for the rights and well-being of Latino/a workers and their families and all vulnerable communities across the United States. While we acknowledge the action taken by Congress to prevent a government shutdown, we urge our politicians to put the interests of the American people first and to ensure that when these 45 days pass, we do not fall in the same scenario.

Evelyn DeJesus,  National President of the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement on the shutdown, “We call upon all politicians, regardless of party affiliation, to put aside partisan differences and prioritize the interest of the American people. While we have escaped a government shutdown this weekend, it is up to our elected leaders to prevent a government shutdown in 45 days. It is their  duty and their responsibility to provide funding to protect working families!”
