Striving for Justice: LCLAA Commemorates Labor Day and the Union Difference
Washington, DC — The Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA) comes together to celebrate Labor Day, a day dedicated to honoring the hardworking men and women who keep our nation running. We stand proud as the most substantial and effective base of Latino/a workers in the United States, and with this, we understand our responsibility to share the invaluable ways unions improve the lives of Latino/a and immigrant workers.
Unions have been a beacon of hope, empowering workers of all backgrounds to secure better wages and improved working conditions. They empower workers to recognize their autonomy, to engage with their community, and to take a stand for fair workplace policies. This has been particularly important for minority communities where the struggle for equality is a continual battle. Unions provide a space where Latino/a workers can work collectively to overcome barriers, ensuring that every worker is treated with dignity and fairness.
As we celebrate Labor Day, during a time where we have seen graduate students, writers, actors, transit workers take to the picket line, we are reminded that the true strength of our nation lies in our workers. They are the backbone of our nation.
Unions continue to play a pivotal role in shaping a more just and equitable society, where the contributions of each worker are recognized and rewarded. Together, we can continue to create a future where every Latina worker is treated with respect and given the opportunities they deserve.
